Coral Cove’s protected coral reef

Exploring the wonders of our own protected coral reef is among the many unique and interesting things you can do here. It’s a great fun adventure even for those who do not consider themselves nature lovers. Think about how you’ll impress your friends with great photos of schools of beautiful fish swimming about in their natural habitat.

Recent improvements to our coral reef

coral-reef-collageIn 2007 with cooperation and approval from NEPA (National Environment & Planning Agency), we embarked on our own reef preservation project. Among other things, we laid a protective breakwater in at the mouth of our cove to create a protected habitat for many species of colorful fish and ocean life. This enhancement also included the protection of the delicate reef in the shallow waters of the cove. Since then, the reef in the western half of the cove, which had been struggling due to the storms of recent years, has exploded with life, allowing even the youngest of our guests to witness this natural wonder of nature.

Advanced swimmers can explore the reef on the outside or tag along with experienced spear fishermen as they go for the catch of the day; beginners and children can walk into the shallow waters of our protected cove don a mask and lifejacket and get a great introduction to the underwater wonders of the Caribbean, and see for yourself the development of the coral reef and its delicate yet resilient ecosystem!
